Dyason’s Klip 1 & 2 and Sirius Solar Plants – 258 MW

In 2018 Tractionel Enterprise were awarded various solar projects under the REIPPP Round 4. A few of these were with SCATEC, namely:

  • Substation – Dyason’s Klip 1 – High Voltage Contract for an 86MW Solar Plant
  • Substation – Dyasons Klip 2 – High Voltage Contract for an 86MW Solar Plant
  • Substation – Sirius – High Voltage Contract for an 86MW Solar Plant
  • Switch Yard – Eskom Self Built 132kV Switchyard
  • 132kV Monopole Line – Construction of 13km Double TERN line on Self-Supporting steel monopoles as per ESKOM Specification, including foundations, mast erecting, stringing and OPGW installation

The project “Scope of Works” entailed the construction of – 3 x 80MVA 132/33kV Substations for the IPP (SCATEC), 2 x132kV Eskom Switchyards, complete with Bulk Earthworks, Primary and Secondary Equipment Supply / Installation, Protection / Automation, SCADA & Commissioning, as well as a 13km 132kV Monopole line to the Upington 400kV MTS.

The projects are situated 30km outside Upington in the Northern Cape – South Africa. The geography of the projects posed some significant challenges due to the remote location of the sites as well as severe calcrete content of the in-situ materials. Tractionel had to adapt quickly to overcome these challenges by applying innovative and effective measures in order to meet the clients’ expectations.

On 6 April 2020 SCATEC announced via a press release that all projects, totalling 258MW have been Grid Connected and were in Commercial Operation. Tractionel Enterprise were a key role-player in the success of these projects and also contributed to the fact that these projects were the first REIPPP Projects to come into Commercial Operation under the Round 4 Projects.
